Find out why this is so and discover how dental implants and other replacement procedures can help you regain your full function and smile aesthetics.

Why It’s Important to Replace Missing Teeth

Your teeth rely on a healthy degree of tension between them to maintain their position. Thus, when even one is missing for a prolonged period of time, the following can happen:

  • Tipping – The teeth on either side of a missing tooth can begin to shift over time, which can cause bite issues or an infection.
  • Super Eruption – The tooth above a vacated space can also begin to shift, which is commonly referred to as a super eruption. It, too, can lead to an infection if not treated in time.
  • Bone Loss – When there is missing tension at the jawbone level, the natural production of new bone material can slow down, and there can be bone loss.
  • Lost Confidence – When you have missing teeth, you can suffer a decrease in your self-esteem, which can lead to depression and ineffective interactions with other people.

The good news is you have some options to be fully restored.

A Dental Crown to Replace a Single Tooth

For a single missing tooth, a dental crown can be placed to prevent any shifting or bone loss. The porcelain fixture is affixed to the surrounding teeth using dental cement, leaving you with a functional and aesthetically-pleasing smile.

Replacing Missing Teeth with Bridges

If you have three or more consecutive teeth missing, then a dental bridge can be of help. It consists of several porcelain crowns affixed to one appliance.

The teeth adjacent to the bridge will serve as abutments or anchors, and the dentist will use dental cement to bond the bridge to them.

Dental Implants – The Gold Standard of Tooth Replacement

When it comes to replacing your teeth, the most effective method available is dental implant placement. It consists of a titanium post that is surgically inserted into the jawbone.

Over a period of roughly four to six months, the implant will fuse with your natural bone material to form a sturdy foundation to support a final restoration.

Which Procedure is Best for You?

The best way to determine what will be the best remedy for your missing teeth is to reach out to a local dentist to schedule a consultation. While there, you’ll receive a full examination to determine what will be the best form of treatment so you can get back to leading a normal life.
